Pop-Up at the Laundromat
Every week we set up at laundromats along the Federal and Dixie Highway corridor and do a stranger's laundry. That is the whole opening move, and it works.
The sign says it plainly
If you are a woman living a life you never wanted to live, in a place you never wanted to be, we will do your laundry for you.
Nothing is asked of her. No form, no story, no conditions. She brings a bag of laundry and, if she wants to, she sits down for a while.
We take a shade tent, camp chairs, refreshments, toiletries, Narcan, used clothing, detergent and quarters. And cut flowers, every single time, because we want to communicate one thing before anybody says a word: you are worth the extra effort.
The objective is relationship. When she decides this life is not working for her, she has a face and a phone number instead of a hotline. We can usually get her into detox that same day, then help chart the next steps into a rehab program, a sober house, and eventually healthy independence.
In 2025 we added showers. It sounds small. It is not.
We would love to have these popping up all over the county wherever the need exists. That takes volunteers and supplies, which is where you come in.

Why it works
Because it is not an intervention
Outreach that leads with a rescue offer almost always fails. The woman it is aimed at has been promised things by men before, and she has learned exactly what a stranger with a plan for her life is usually worth.
So we do not lead with one. We lead with a chair, a cold drink and a machine full of her laundry running for free. We come back next week. And the week after. Somewhere in there we stop being strangers.
By the time she is ready, and she decides when that is, we are not a hotline she has to trust from cold. We are Becky, and she has our number.
Victims are helpless, hopeless and powerless. But you are only a victim for as long as you embrace that idea.
A roll of quarters is a real contribution.
There is no line item for cut flowers or detergent. There is just whoever decides to help this week.
