ReSPECT

Reframing Solicitation and Prostitution, Education, Coaching & Training. A six hour workshop for sellers only, offered free of charge as part of our outreach to women in commercial sexual exploitation.

The six hours

  1. Sexually transmitted infections

A one hour lecture and slide show with specific detail on sexually transmitted infections, their long term health consequences, and treatment or problems in treatment.

60 minutes · Presented by a nurse practitioner

  2. The Lies I Believed That Kept Me There

A sex trafficking survivor who got out of the life explores the lies that kept her there, and how force, fraud and coercion played into her story. A mental health counselor presents alongside her, explaining how trauma, family of origin dynamics, previous victimization and dissociation work together to trap someone.

60 minutes · Survivor with an LMHC

  3. Group session: vulnerability, self-worth, going forward

Vulnerability issues. How molestation, incest, rape, a shame-based family of origin, low self-worth and addiction, plus the impact of trauma and complex trauma, create the vulnerabilities traffickers look for.

Self-worth. Powerlessness, helplessness and hopelessness, their impact on personal value, and the idea of possibilities: what life might hold beyond this legal issue.

Going forward. What resources exist for addictive patterns, counseling, safe house options, shelters, case management, and training or education toward marketable skills.

    Coordinated by an LMHC

A list of resources for a fresh start is given to every participant at the end of the course.

If you are the one taking this class

Nobody in that room thinks less of you. There is no shame element to this course and there never has been. The afternoon starts with a dress, a pair of high heels and beads draped over a chair, and one question: how did she get there?

There is always a story. When you are ready to talk about yours, call Becky at 561-386-0031.

What has come out of these classes

By the afternoon group sessions, participants have been undone by the kindness, dignity and affirmation they are given.

Shocked that there is no shame and no condemnation, and earnestly talking about what it would look like to change their lives. Every class has had one woman who wanted out.

We maintain contact with them, and with those still hesitating to take the risk. At the very least, they leave knowing that support and resources are available when they are ready. The feedback papers from the sellers' classes have all been highly positive.
